How I Handle Deodorant Differently Than Most People
I have a confession: I don’t wear deodorant every day.
I hear the collective groan from you all, and I agree: I have to do something different. Wanna know why I don’t wear deodorant very often? Well, if we are talking about regular, mainstream deodorant, the reason is simple. It’s REALLY BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH! How, you ask? Well, deodorant is a…
Mainstream deodorant is also antiperspirant, meaning it blocks your armpits from sweating. And why do we sweat? Well generally, we sweat all over our body to keep cool. But our armpits also play the role of helping us detox from harmful chemicals that our body has inside. The armpit is among the most capable parts of our body for getting rid of toxins. If we can’t sweat from our armpits at all, it means there are more toxins making us sick.
A bit more urgent, perhaps, is the grim reality that mainstream deodorant uses toxic ingredients. Aluminum, which is used to stop sweating, has the potential to cause heavy metal toxicity. That’s a more scientific way of saying it causes PERMANENT brain damage, which is often linked to early stage Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Deodorant has been popular since the 1950s. Could the use of deodorant be part of the reason Alzheimer’s is common among people in their 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, especially in countries like the US and the UK, where deodorant was first made popular?
We have talked about fragrance before, but just a reminder that many mainstream deodorants use fragrance (parfum) with endocrine disruptors. As previously mentioned, these disruptors can negatively impact male sex drive, lower testosterone in men, and even contribute to many types of cancer in women. Yikes!
So I hear you asking “What about natural deodorant?” Unless of course you’ve tried it and had a tough experience. That’s right, there are two things I want to say about natural deodorant right now:
It’s a great choice if you spare your fellow human of your very bad BO
It doesn’t work at all the same way as mainstream deodorant.
I am personally making the shift to natural deodorant today, but I know it will be different. I genuinely believe, given the terrible health impacts of mainstream deodorant, that people need to make the switch to natural. Find out in my next article how it works, and how you can experience the best version of yourself with natural deodorant.
